About Kyokabutoya

Kyokabutoya began from the desire to serve quality cuisine in a bar-like atmosphere, to create a restaurant where chefs would want to eat, and to fill that restaurant with laughing voices and smiling faces!

Within the very traditional exterior of Kyokabutoya is an interior renovated to preserve the best attributes of Kyo-machiya townhouses while creating a relaxing atmosphere for guests – a perfect harmony of old and new. Wine is available by the glass so that guests can enjoy different pairings with Japanese dishes.

We also hope to acquaint our non-Japanese guests with genuine Japanese cuisine in a relaxing atmosphere.

Exterior: Japanese Restaurant Kyokabutoya
Entrance: Please remove your shoes and come on in! The interior design is patently Japanese except for the Western-style chairs – no need to sit seiza-style at Kyokabutoya!
Counter seating: There are eight counter seats from which to view the active kitchen.
Counter seating: Enjoy a view of our beautiful courtyard to the left.
Private dining room: An eight-seat private dining room set apart from the rest of the restaurant by sliding screens. Also available to parties of four.
Courtyard: Kyokabutoya's beautiful courtyard also functions as our smoking area.

We at Kyokabutoya are devoted to providing an atmosphere where guests can relax and have a good meal. Eating traditional Japanese food in Kyoto often means making an awkward approach to a restaurant that does not seem very inviting. We want to change that. Everyone on our staff aims to make our restaurant a bright, fun place to dine. We try our best to make everybody who eats here glad that they came to Kyokabutoya. We can't wait to host your next lunch or dinner out and see your radiant smiles!
